AI Asset-Manager Observatory: Market Edition Dashboard

AI ASSET-MANAGER OBSERVATORY · MARKET EDITION

Ask a machine for a European asset manager. Then check who actually owns the money.

The machines and the market agree on Amundi, then split. This edition puts the published 487-answer base run next to reported AUM for the first time. Natixis runs €1.26 trillion and reaches 3.3% of AI answers. Fundsmith runs £24 billion and is named first 30 times.

The flip

Top five by AI reach against top five by reported AUM. The winning bar swaps sides.

Every prompt asked for a European manager. AI put Amundi first. The market, measured by reported AUM, is led by US giants. Among European-headquartered firms, Amundi is still number one, followed by UBS AM, BNP Paribas AM and Natixis IM.

Since the last edition

The AI answers are the published base run, frozen. What changed is the market layer.

Market edition · Q3 2026
−BNP Paribas AM and AXA IM counted as two brands: 26.7% and 26.5% reach.
+Counted as one group after the 2025 merger, they reach 53.2%: the second most-named manager in Europe.
−Market weight was not part of the observatory: no AUM column, no gap ranking.
+Reported AUM for 25+ firms added, with the first AI-vs-market gap ranking.

Method. AI figures: the published base run, 487 logged answers, three engines (Gemini grounded with web search, DeepSeek and Mistral from memory), 20 buyer prompts, fixed roster of 108 managers and aliases, every answer saved and validated. Market figures: each firm’s latest public reporting, December 2025 or H1 2026. Reported AUM is not like-for-like (some figures are group AUMA, some asset management only, some assets under supervision; EUR conversions are indicative, roughly 1.15 USD, 1.17 GBP and 1.07 CHF per euro). The gap metric counts AI mentions per €100bn of reported AUM: it rewards lean, quotable firms and punishes balance-sheet scale. This measures what the machines say and what firms report, not fund quality, net flows or profitability. It is a sampling, not a census.
